The Shepherd Theme 9/8/26
Dear Brothers & Sisters,
The shepherd theme runs like a long thread throughout the Scriptures
God loved to choose shepherds; Abel, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, David, Amos, etc. so much so that he chose to identify Himself as the Shepherd of Israel (Psalm 80:1, Ezekiel 34:11-12).
In John chapter ten, the Lord Jesus took this Divine title for himself and taught there is...
A. One way to safe pasture (vv1-2, 6-15)
B. One voice the sheep heed (vv3-5, 16, 25-30)
C. One man who gave his life for the sheep (vv17-18, 30-39)
This man, the good shepherd, is no ordinary man. He is God in the flesh.
Through the examples of shepherd, sheep, and sheepfold, we are reminded that those who trust in Jesus are safe.
"All we like sheep have gone astray," says the prophet Isaiah (Isaiah 53:6). If sheep have a reputation for being foolish it is only because they are stubborn. This happens to be a trait we carry in spades as humans. The good news, as we learn to trust the shepherd's hand, we become truly satisfied.
Do you? Do you trust Him?
He laid down his life for his wayward people. You are safe in His Hands.
In Christ's Service,
Matt
