Trusting, Investing, and the God of Israel (10/27/26)
Dear fellow citizens of the Kingdom of God,
Are you inclined to hold back doubting the Lord? In the days when Jerusalem was under siege by the Babylonians, the Lord gave a command to his prophet Jeremiah. What follows is an abbreviated account:
"Jeremiah, go buy this piece of land" - YHWH
[Jeremiah goes to buy the land. But, after purchasing the land, he has some questions for the Lord.]
"Ok God, I bought the land you asked me to, but aren't you about to destroy Judah for their sin and send the few that are left into exile far away?" - Jeremiah
"Yes, I will destroy them, but I will bring a remnant back and then land will once again be bought and sold" - YHWH
[You can read the full account in Jeremiah 32]
The LORD's command to Jeremiah and the conversation that followed are an example to us of faith in God's promises.
Question: Will we like Jeremiah trust the LORD when the siege is at the gates? Do we remember and cling to God's promise to preserve a remnant, to restore and bless his people? God promises that though he will destroy, he will not make a full end of his people. Do we believe that?
Our investments reflect what we believe. Jeremiah was willing to invest in what seemed foolish to men, because he trusted God. What do your investments reveal about your heart? What would you invest yourself, your time, and your resources in if you truly believed God was faithful to His Word?
In Christ's Service,
Matt
P.S. A simple way to begin is to ask yourself "what investments does God say are pleasing to him?" Aim always for what is pleasing in the sight of God. Next ask "what has God given me?" No gift is too small for the Kingdom of Heaven. Finally, "how can I use this gift to bring a return on what he's given me?"
