Dear Brothers & Sisters,
You're in a fight to the death with a dragon. Will you choose the pen knife or the sword?
The Dragon: he's also known as the Devil, the accuser of the brethren (Further Reading: Revelation 12:7-12).
The pen knife: Your wits and the world's best philosophies (Further Reading: Proverbs 14:12, Colossians 2:8)
The Sword: The wisdom and power of the Word of God (Further reading: Ephesians 6:17, Hebrews 4:12, 1 Corinthians 1:18-31)
David asks
"How can a young man keep his way pure?"
And answers
"by guarding it according to your word."
(Psalm 119:9)
Then he continues,
"I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you" (Psalm 119:11)
Why did David value the Word?
A. Because he valued the LORD and did not want to rebel against Him.
Mere memorization or recital isn't what keeps a man (or woman). Is this your desire - to please God rather than to defy Him? Why do (or don't) you keep God's word close to your heart?
Remember: What you spend time learning, storing up in your heart, is what you'll pull out when temptation comes.
In Christ's service,
Matt
