"Sole Treasure" 3/13/24

Dear brothers & sisters,

When Paul said "I counted everything as loss because of the all-surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord" (Philippians 3:8), he wasn't exaggerating. He actually believed that knowing Christ as his Lord was better than anything else.

All the things in his life that he had previously seen as assets (his heritage, his law-keeping, his [misplaced] zeal), he now considered as nothing compared to Christ.

Do you hold Christ as the sole treasure of your soul? Does your life bear witness that Christ is everything to you?

Listen to how the glory of Christ is described in the book of Hebrews,

"In these last days he (God) has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high" (Hebrews 1:2-3) and again it is written "of the Son he says, 'your throne, O God, if forever and ever, the scepter of uprightness is the scepter of your kingdom. You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, your GOd, has anointed you with the oil of gladness beyond your companions.' And, 'You, Lord, laid the foundation of the earth in the beginning, and the heavens are the work of your hands; they will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment like a robe you will roll them up, like a garment they will be changed. But you are the same, and your years will have no end.'" (Hebrews 1:8-12, in these verses two quotations from the OT are cited. These psalms, Psalm 45:6-7 & Psalm 102:25-27, speak of the Son (Jesus) ruling over all, the maker of the universe who does not change or come to an end).

Brothers & Sisters, this is who Jesus is! The unchangeable everlasting sovereign Creator.

May He open our eyes to behold Him! (2 Corinthians 3:14-18)

Grace & Peace,

Matt
