Dear brothers & sisters,
Paul wrote to Timothy, while imprisoned in Rome, to spur him on in his calling. He writes of guarding the good news entrusted to him (2 Timothy 1:14) and of passing it on to faithful men (2 Timothy 2:2) who will pass it on to others. And, though we are not all called to be an evangelist or teacher like Timothy, this basic task remains the calling of the church, Christ's body. Together, we remain the keepers of the good news, called to "continue in what we have learned and have firmly believed" (2 Timothy 3:14) and pass on the message that
[3] ... Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, [4] that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, [5] and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. [6] Then he appeared to more than five hundred brothers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have fallen asleep. (1 Corinthians 15:3-6 ESV).
And likewise that there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12).
Together with you,
Holding onto and passing on the good news of Christ,
Matt
