Dear Brothers & Sisters,
"And Balaam took up his discourse and said, “Rise, Balak, and hear; give ear to me, O son of Zippor: God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it? Behold, I received a command to bless: he has blessed, and I cannot revoke it." (Numbers 23:18-20)
The pagan prophet Balaam was an ungodly man, condemned for his greed (see 2 Peter 2:14-16, Jude 11, Revelation 2:14). Yet, Balaam could not speak a word except what the LORD gave him to speak, for he had been warned on the way (see Numbers 22).
Even though Balak the king of Moab offered him rich payment to curse Israel, Balaam spoke only the words of the LORD (see Numbers 24:12-14). Think about it, the very one whom God's enemies had called to curse God's people, ended up being the one through whom God blessed Israel. Let this remind us that nothing can thwart God's purposes or utterly destroy God's people. This is the great confidence of all who trust in Him: that God always keeps his word. We do not serve a God who changes with the whims of men or the passing of time. He is as He was from before time began. What God has spoken, he will do. Do you believe this? Such a truth transforms how we look at every situation in life. There is no enemy who will triumph over the one whom God has redeemed. There is no situation in which God does not have some good purpose for his children. Our God does not lie, so we may take Him at His word and trust Him.
Praise be to God whose word never fails.
May His unfailing blessing and peace be with you through our Lord Jesus Christ,
Matt
