Dear Brothers & Sisters,
A young girl stabbed in public and left to die alone. A young man, who spent his life promoting respectful dialogue in the public square, standing for truth, and proclaiming the gospel of Christ as Lord, assassinated.
Are you angry? Angered by violence of the wicked as David was, troubled like Lot at the wickedness about you, fearful like Gideon at the threat of the Midianite Hordes? God is not surprised by our emotions. He is not caught off guard by your pain, your anger, your doubts and fears. He's seen it all before. He knows the thoughts, plans, and desires of your soul.
Psalm 139
O Lord, you have searched me and known me!
2 You know when I sit down and when I rise up;
you discern my thoughts from afar.
3 You search out my path and my lying down
and are acquainted with all my ways.
4 Even before a word is on my tongue,
behold, O Lord, you know it altogether.
5 You hem me in, behind and before,
and lay your hand upon me.
6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;
it is high; I cannot attain it.
God doesn't want a charade, he isn't interested in your masks, everything hidden will one day be exposed. He already knows the depths of your soul, He wants us to be honest before Him.
Behold, you delight in truth in the inward being, and you teach me wisdom in the secret heart (Psalm 51:6 ESV)
"Whoever gives an honest answer kisses the lips" (Proverbs 24:26 ESV).
“Whoever desires to love life and see good days, let him keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit; let him turn away from evil and do good; let him seek peace and pursue it. For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are open to their prayer. But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil" (1 Peter 3:10-12 ESV)
God Isn't Your Therapist
He doesn't sit there and empathize. He isn't going to tell you "go love yourself" or validate all your emotions. God Himself entered time and space and endured suffering and death to redeem hell-bent sinners, the messed up, the broken, the poor, all who would receive Him. He came Himself to do what no one else would or could (cf. Isaiah 59). So, yes, He can take your anger and your shame and your grief and He can redeem it. And, no, He won't coddle you. Our Lord speaks the hard truth, the truth about sin, the truth that vengeance is coming (but it's not ours to wield), the truth of His mighty presence with us, and his will for us (read 1 Thess 4:3, 5:18, Ephesians 4:26, Luke 6:32-36, Psalm 4:4, Romans 12:17-21 for guidance on responding to evil like our Savior Jesus Christ). Friend, only God can save us and restore what has been torn apart by evil men.
I leave you, then, with the same plea that I did last week.
"Won't you cry out to him"
In Christ's Service,
Matt
P.S. There was only one Charlie Kirk, but there are many who know His Lord, whom God is calling, to rise up and stand in the strength of Christ to live the truth with love. Will you answer the call of Christ? Then, pour out your heart to him at all times and seek His kingdom first.
